Underfloor
Insulation

learn more

Underfloor Insulation allows your home to preserve more heat. If you live in an older property with suspended timber floors, then this insulation method is the best option to reduce draughts and improve energy efficiency.

02

What is Underfloor
Insulation?

Underfloor Insulation is the addition of an insulation material beneath the floorboards which reduces the amount of heat that can escape into the ground.

It has been shown that 15% of the heat lost from your home is via this route and the installation of Underfloor Insulation acts as barrier not only to prevent heat loss but also stops draughts coming up through the floorboards.

As an extra draught proofing measure, the gaps between your skirting boards and floor can be insulated and sealed during this process.

03

How Does Underfloor
Insulation Work?

Older houses with suspended timber floors do not have adequate floor insulation which causes a substantial draught leading to faster heat loss within your home.

As this happens, you will use more fuel to heat the space and pay more for your energy bills.

The installation of underfloor heating will address these issues and pay back your investment in less than 5 years.

Designs are often focused towards insulating your exterior walls or roof space. Insulating these spaces is important.

However, you can save a substantial amount of money on heating your home by insulating the space under your floor.

You may also think about insulating the basement or foundations of your home.

The type of insulation that will be appropriate for your home is dependant upon its design and temperature management needs.

Whether you have a suspended wooden floor or a concrete floor, improving your Underfloor Insulation could save you up to £70 per year on your energy bills making it a simple and effective way to keep your home warm.

About 15% of heat loss from an average home is through the ground floor

Why Add Underfloor
Insulation?

Often, timber floors are comprised of floorboards laid upon timber floor joists making them incredibly draughty. These draughts can be reduced by liners that are laid below wooden or laminate floors. However, these will not stop draughts entirely as the edges are not airtight.
Professionally installed Underfloor Insulation will help your house to heat up quickly and reduce the amount of heat that can be lost.

You can reduce your carbon footprint up to 240kg per year with correctly installed Underfloor Insulation and up to 100kg if you fill the gaps between your skirting board and floor.

The Installation Process

To begin we will check for any existing damp or rot under your floor.

Any damage that is noted in this initial assessment must be repaired before any work can be conducted.

Installing insulation will exacerbate any current issues and the moisture will render it ineffective.

The simplest method of insulating your underfloor space is to lift the floorboards and install the insulation between the floor joists.

Our installers will remove one board every metre to pin the insulation underneath and cause minimal disruption.

Each floor board that is removed will be replaced with brand new boards.

Once complete, your floorboards are re-laid, and you can choose your desired floor finish to compliment your room.

As with any form of insulation, it will only be effective if the correct insulation type is used.

We take great care to consider every aspect of your project and ensure we always use the most suitable type of material for your property.

INSURANCE BACKED GUARANTEES

An Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG) is an insurance policy that protects your original guarantee provided by us as an installer.

We offer an IBG to provide you with additional peace of mind that in the unlikely event we cease to trade, you will still be able to make a claim under the terms of our original guarantee, subject to terms and conditions.

The IBG’s are registered and paid for by Zerofy as the installer and provide you with cover for up to a 10-year period.

Zerofy will register you via the scheme for an IBG that protects your original guarantee. This ensures that any legal claim under that guarantee is assured to be met by the insurers.

Achieving Net Zero

Our goal is to support the UK Government in achieving its target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and one of the ways we can do so, is by installing the appropriate insulation within your home. Most of the energy used within homes is required for room heating, by installing solid wall insultation, we will decrease the amount of fuel required to heat your property, reducing your overall carbon footprint as less heat can be lost through your walls. So, you can guarantee that all work we conduct will provide you with the best thermal performance available.

ECO Funding Available

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government energy efficiency scheme in Great Britain to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce carbon emissions.

You could be eligible for ECO if you are a core group customer from scheme year 9 onwards under the Warm Home Discount Scheme or receive at least one of the qualifying benefits and meet relevant income requirements.

You can find out more about ECO funding and if you are eligible here
