Cavity Wall
Insulation

learn more

Cavity Wall Insulation is one of the most effective methods of minimising energy waste and saving you money on your energy bills. The cost of domestic heating continues to rise and it is thought that up to 35% of the heat in your home is lost through the walls. This alone could be costing you £100’s more per year.

02

What is Cavity Wall Insulation?

Cavity Wall Insulation bounces the heat back into the room and helps your room hold heat for longer. It does this by storing heat within the inner walls. When this happens, you acquire an even room temperature and reduce draughts that come down from the walls. The actual cavity itself is located between the inner and outer brickwork of your home.

03

What is a cavity wall?

A cavity wall is made up of two separate thin walls built of bricks with a gap (or cavity) between them and they are held together with metal wall ties.

If your home was built after the 1920’s then more likely than not, it has cavity walls. Additionally, unless your home was built within the last 20 years then the cavities within those walls are most likely empty making it much easier to lose heat through your walls. Filling those cavities with wall insulation is a cost-effective way to keep the heat in your home and save money on your energy bills.

Approximately one third of the heat loss from most properties is lost through the walls which means that cavity wall insulation could save you £160 a year in heating bills. With the amount of money, you will save, cavity wall insulation will pay for itself within 5 years or less.

The average three-bedroom semi-detached house could save up to £170 per year on heating bills with Cavity Wall Insulation. Your investment could pay you back within 4 years.

Is cavity wall insulation right for your home?

You should only consider cavity wall insulation if:

  • Your home has unfilled cavity walls made of brick
  • Your wall cavities are at least 2 inches wide
  • The brickwork is in good condition
  • External walls must be accessible – installation around extensions or garages will be difficult to achieve
  • Your home is less than 12 metres high
  • Your internal walls must be dry. Any damp patches must be resolved before insulation, or the insulation will be completely ineffective.
  • There should be no areas of steel or timber-framed construction.

If you can answer ‘yes’ to the above points, then cavity wall insulation may be suitable for your home. Timber-framed homes are not appropriate for cavity wall insulation as they do not allow moisture to escape. These buildings appear as though they are built from brick so if you are unsure then you will need an assessment to confirm your homes suitability. Our team can check this by looking inside of the roof space and checking whether the gable walls are made of timber or brick.

The Installation Process

Cavity walls are insulated by injecting insulation material into the cavity via the outside wall. As a specialist company, we can drill holes into your external walls and inject the insulation through them. We will then seal them with cement. The insulation material we use is usually either polystyrene beads or mineral wool. However, polyurethane foam can sometimes be used.

The holes that are drilled into your walls are approximately 22mm in size at intervals of around 1m in the external wall of your home. From there, we blow the insulation into the cavity using our specialist equipment. Once the insulation is installed, we fill the holes within the brickwork so they will not be noticed.

Cavity wall insulation is a job that should be carried out by a professional installer and as registered professionals, we can do this for you. In most cases, we can complete the job in 2 hours on the average house with accessible external walls with minimal disruption.

Achieving Net-Zero

Our goal is to support the UK Government in achieving its target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and one of the ways we can do so, is by installing the appropriate insulation within your home. Most of the energy used within homes is required for room heating, by installing cavity wall insultation, we will decrease the amount of fuel required to heat your property, reducing your overall carbon footprint as less heat can be lost through your walls. So, you can guarantee that all work we conduct will provide you with the best thermal performance available.

09

An Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG) is an insurance policy that protects your original guarantee provided by us as an installer. We offer an IBG to provide you with additional peace of mind that in the unlikely event we cease to trade, you will still be able to make a claim under the terms of our original guarantee, subject to terms and conditions.

The IBG’s are registered and paid for by Zerofy as the installer and provide you with cover for up to a 10-year period.

Zerofy will register you via the scheme for an IBG that protects your original guarantee. This ensures that any legal claim under that guarantee is assured to be met by the insurers.

We eliminate the risk with a legitimate Insurance Backed Guarantee
