02

What is loft insulation?

Loft insulation is a barrier of material in your attic space that helps to slow down and minimise the transfer of heat from your home to the outside world: keeping it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

This type of insulation is laid between the horizontal beams along the floor (joists) or the angled beams that help to support the roof (rafters).

03

Why do you need loft insulation?

If your home is uninsulated then you will lose a quarter of your heat through the roof. Fitting insulation in your roof space is an effective way to improve the comfort of your property.

In addition, loft insulation lasts beyond 40 years and will pay for itself many times over in energy bill savings, as the cost of loft insulation is relatively low.

When it comes to environmental benefits, having loft insulation will help to reduce your home’s carbon footprint because the better your home is insulated, the more efficient your heating system will be.

In turn this helps to reduce emissions and saves you money on your bills.

Choosing the right loft insulation for your home

Loft insulation is available in a wide range of materials, from traditional glass wool to sustainable, renewable wood fibre insulation. The price, effectiveness and environmental benefits are all factors that should be considered when selecting the best loft insulation material for your development.

Loft roll is the most popular domestic form of loft insulation. Loft roll is widely used in domestic settings due to its fast and simple installation process. Loft roll is easily laid across your attic floor and is a particularly nice choice if you have exposed joists. However, this is not typically chosen if your loft space is not easily accessible, or you have obstructions that will require insulation to be laid around them.

To prevent the build-up of moisture, a vapour barrier is used. This is costed in additionally. Glass fibre insulation is easy to install, reduces sound, is non-combustible and can be made from recyclable materials. Although, if this product comes into contact due to a leaking roof, it quickly loses its insulation qualities and becomes ineffective.

Glass fibre insulation is the most common material used for loft roll insulation and the biggest associated advantage is the upfront costs. In comparison to alternate materials, glass fibre insulation is low cost and ideal for those on a budget.

Benefits of Loft
Insulation Include

  • Reduced Heating Bills
  • Improved Thermal Efficiency
  • Increased Property Value
  • Cost-effective
05

Tanks and Pipe Insulation

It can be more difficult to work around obstructions in your loft space such as cold-water tanks and pipes. However, we will ensure that these are adequately insulated as part of our standard process. If your tanks and pipes are not insulated, it increases the risk of these freezing and bursting.
We will take care to check that there is appropriate ventilation between the roof and your new insulation to prevent condensation and moisture build-up within the roof space.

06

Existing Damp
and Loft Insulation

Loft insulation between the joists in your roof can make your attic space colder and this can worsen any existing damp issues. This problem will continue to exist even if you choose to have your insulation installed between the roof rafters due to the reduction of ventilation. In this case, you will need to increase the amount of ventilation in your roof, and this will require further approval.
We complete a full assessment of your attic space to ensure that it is safe and appropriate to install your insulation. In doing so, we prevent you issues arising in the future which cause your further costs.

Installation Process

Laying loft insulation is a straight forward process that our experienced installers can complete quickly and professionally. On our initial visit we carry out a comprehensive check to make sure that your loft space requires no additional work prior to installation. It can take up to 2 hours to install loft insulation in an average three-bed property. Larger attic spaces can take longer and we will advise you of the expected installation time upon our visit.

We eliminate the risk with a legitimate Insurance Backed Guarantee

An Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG) is an insurance policy that protects your original guarantee provided by us as an installer. We offer an IBG to provide you with additional peace of mind that in the unlikely event we cease to trade, you will still be able to make a claim under the terms of our original guarantee, subject to terms and conditions.
The IBG’s are registered and paid for by Zerofy as the installer and provide you with cover for up to a 10-year period.
Zerofy will register you via the scheme for an IBG that protects your original guarantee. This ensures that any legal claim under that guarantee is assured to be met by the insurers.

Achieving Net Zero

Our goal is to support the UK Government in achieving its target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and one of the ways we can do so, is by installing the appropriate insulation within your home. Most of the energy used within homes is required for room heating, by installing solid wall insultation, we will decrease the amount of fuel required to heat your property, reducing your overall carbon footprint as less heat can be lost through your walls. So, you can guarantee that all work we conduct will provide you with the best thermal performance available.

Energy Company
Obligation (ECO)

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government energy efficiency scheme in Great Britain to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce carbon emissions.

You could be eligible for ECO if you are a core group customer from scheme year 9 onwards under the Warm Home Discount Scheme or receive at least one of the qualifying benefits and meet relevant income requirements.
